Hello. My name is Bernita Hadley and I work for The Piton Foundation in Denver . I am writing to inform you of an education campaign we conduct around the Earned Income Tax Credit, a federal tax credit for lower income families. We distribute brochures and posters to non-profit organizations, schools, businesses, union, food banks, etc. to ask for assistance in disseminating information to their clients, students, employees, members, etc. Many families do not realize that this tax credit is available or that they may qualify. There are also free tax sites in the Denver area for families who have a household income of $42,000 or less. You can go to www.piton.org/eitc for that information.
I am writing to ask if there is anything that you can do to assist us in spreading the word to families in your neighborhoods about these important tax credits. I have attached some pdf’s that perhaps you could use in a neighborhood newsletter or perhaps handing out materials at a neighborhood meeting.
Please let me know if you would like any of our printed materials sent to you free of charge. We would be glad to send anything you would like.
Also, there is a new free tax site at Manual High School , Room 310. The site will be open from 8am-2pm on Saturdays and 6pm-8pm on Thursdays. The tax site will serve families with a household income of about $42,000.

If you make less than about $42,000 and have children living at home, the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit can help you keep more of the money you work so hard to earn. If you qualify, you owe less in taxes and may even get hundreds or thousands of dollars back. Plus, there are more tax credits available for saving for retirement and for college. Dial 211 (it’s a free call) to learn about these tax credits and to find help filing your taxes, or go to www.piton.org/eitc ( http://www.piton.org/The_Earned_Income_Tax_Credit_in_Colorado ).
