Hello Neighbors,
Some of you may have heard rumors about an upcoming Festival to be held in City Park on April 20th, the Green Apple Music Festival. I had heard that it was an Earthday event that was expecting 30,000 people. Many neighbors were a bit alarmed and also concerned that there had not been any contact from the promoter until recently.
Attached is the update from the Green Apple Music Festival promoter, All Phases Production. I met with Scott Nichols and it seems that things were overstated at the beginning. Now the number that they are expecting on Sunday, April 20th when the Neville Brothers go on stage at 5:00 pm will be more like 10,000. It might be a bit more of a crowd than a big Sunday on the meadow for City Park Jazz but not appreciably more. The area they are going to use will be the soccer fields along 17th Ave on the SW side of the park. There will only be one stage, facing west, so that the Zoo animals should not be an issue. There will be no alcohol sold and no admission charged so no fencing or closing off of the park.
Scott Nichols has worked here in the Denver area for many years. He also has worked as a promoter all over the country and is also organizing the other seven Green Apple Festivals being held around the country. He does have a parking plan, security plan and all of that. He is, in fact, using Chuck Manning the gentleman that Chuck Morris was using for his parking plan.
They have talked with the Zoo, Parks and Rec and although somehow they got scheduled the same date as the free day at the Museum they hope that it will not be too overwhelming. They have in their contract to restore the grass or any other damage they might cause.
Although some of our concerns have been eased there are still many questions that I’m sure we would all like to have answered. I’m organizing a town hall meeting with Scott next Monday night, March 31st, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Museum of Nature and Science, Ricketson Auditorium. I know it’s not much notice but I thought the sooner the better so I hope most of you can make it. He will be presenting his plans and will be open for feedback.
I’ll keep you all in the loop as to updates on this meeting and anything new we learn about the festival. Please forward this on to anyone who might be interested.
See you soon!
