Green Apple Festival

The third annual Green Apple Festival, produced in partnership with Earth Day Network and presented by Chase, announces “America’s Largest Earth Day Celebration”– a weekend of music and environmental awareness culminating on Sunday, April 20th with eight free festivals occurring simultaneously at landmark locations across the U.S.

Approximately 500,000 people are expected to attend the all-inclusive, interactive and free public events in New York City (Central Park), Washington, DC (The National Mall), Chicago IL (Lincoln Park Zoo), Miami FL (Bicentennial Park), Denver CO (City Park), Dallas TX (Fair Park), San Francisco CA (Golden Gate Park) and Los Angeles CA (Santa Monica Pier).

Earth Day Network, the non-profit organization created by the original founders of Earth Day in 1970, and Green Apple Festival are proud to announce that the National Mall event in Washington, DC alone will bring together world environmental leaders, community activists, A-list talent and crowds in the hundreds of thousands to make this one of the largest Earth Day gatherings in U.S. history.

THE 2008 GREEN APPLE FESTIVAL

  • Is one of the largest Earth Day gatherings in U.S. history
  • Presents eight, simultaneous events at landmark parks across the country on April 20, 2008
  • Is located in parks, rather than concrete venues, chosen with eco-considerations such as easy foot/bike access and public transportation
  • Will “green” over 150 music venues over Earth Day Weekend in each Green Apple city
  • Is produced in partnership with Earth Day Network, founders of the original “Earth Day” in 1970

Volunteers Needed
We anticipate that this event will be the largest Earth Day celebration ever in Denver and we need all the help we can get. We need folks to help work the festival in City Park. If you are interested in donating your time and being part of this HISTORIC event, please write to volunteer@RockTheEarth.org. Volunteers will be given special gifts and we’re also hoping to throw a volunteer-only party following the event.

Vendors
RtE is also in charge of all vending at the event – from sustainability oriented non-profit organizations and green businesses to arts and crafts vendors to healthy and organic food vendors, the vending village at Green Apple will have something for everyone! If you are involved in a nonprofit or have a business that would like a booth at the festival on 4/20, please write to info@rocktheearth.org.

Stay tuned for more about the Green Apple Festival!

  1. Dear Neighbors,

Here is something that Carla Madison and several others in the community just heard about late Tuesday. Councilwoman Madison has requested more information about this event at City Park next month. In the meantime, here is what has been learned thus far:

The Earth Day FREE festival expects 30,000 people in City Park over the Earth Day weekend (April 19 – 20)

Parks Department has issued a permit for the festival. (They are not required to provide public notice of these permits)

There does not seem to be a parking plan or traffic control.

Haven’t seen any news / press releases locally about this festival. (Unusual – since I recall past earth day events (admittedly much smaller venues) have always had lots of advance publicity.

It is unknown at this time if agreements are in place to rehabilitate the damage of 30,000 people in the park (during the wet spring season), and who will pay for it.

Unknown if liquor will be allowed.

Tech. Reyes Trujillo is contacting Special Events division of the DPD to see what security / traffic control plans are in place through the DPD.

    Regards,
    Penelope Zeller
