Simple request for a simple, straight answer.

Neighbors,

More public information.  This will likely be the last communiqué I will circulate regarding the proposed City Park Music Festival.

The concert promoters do not intend to use City Park for their proposed concert.  That seems to be a done deal – the result of The Denver Zoo’s official opposition to the concert noted in a press release late Tuesday, December 18.

However, I will now make a public statement of my own: It was always my intent to be loyal to the decision of the Zoo regarding the support or opposition of the proposed concert.  Based on the events of the past week, I must withdraw my support until I receive satisfactory answers to questions that have arisen.  How can the Zoo make a qualified decision about noise levels (primary reason for opposition) when the report from Hankard Environmental was not released until Friday, December 21st?

I realize that the common man may not be privy to all the closed door meeting results, but I do strive to have valid information available to me and my neighbors. Something just does not stack up .  Whether you support or oppose any issue, accurate and timely information is what we, as citizens, rely upon to make our decisions.  It is our right.

One would wish that Mr. Piper had chosen his timing and his reasons for opposition differently.  Why hasn’t the zoo been more vocal about the aviary hatching facility?  I’d have thought this, and maybe the skittish nature of the hoofed stock, would have been of greater concern than the other general reasons cited in the newspapers by Mr. Piper and the Zoo Spokeswoman.

To add insult to injury, the results of the report below seem to nullify Mr. Piper’s primary objections to the concert.  Additionally, this report supports the obvious question regarding the premature nature of Zoo’s opposition.

The City and surrounding neighborhoods will now miss out of millions of dollars in benefit and revenue over the next decade as a result of the Zoo opinion and the Concert promoter’s desire to respect the Zoo opposition.

Logic would dictate that the City and citizens deserve to know the real reason for the Zoo’s opposition.  Please address any questions regarding this process to the Zoo.  I have.

Simple request for a simple, straight answer.

Respectfully,
Penelope Zeller
