Music Fest Information Meeting
The promoters of the proposed Mile High Music and Arts Festival 2008 to be held in City Park July 18 to 20, 2008 will be at NCPCA’s November 27 general meeting to update the neighborhood on the planning process for the festival and answer questions from those in attendance. Chuck Morris, President of AEG Live, Rocky Mountain Division, and Brittany Morris, Vice-President of CRL Associates will be available to make sure that all in attendance will have as much information as they have available on the plans for the three day festival.
The festival promoters are planning for up to 50,000 attendees per day on Saturday and Sunday, and a few thousand on Sunday for a smaller community oriented event. The NCPCA Board has not taken a formal position on the proposed event due to the varied positions of our members and the community-at-large. However, in the event the event passes muster with City Council, we have taken steps to ensure the interests of the neighborhood are protected. We have been in negotiations with the promoter of the event concerning access to City Park during set-up, operations, and tear-down phases; parking; noise; trash; and potential property damage to private and public property in the neighborhood.
At the request of the promoter, the Board has nominated two of our residents to serve on an Advisory Committee the promoter is organizing to advise it on the details of on-going planning and the effects on the neighborhoods and business surrounding City Park and the effects on City Park itself. North City Park/Skyland will be well represented on the Advisory Committee by Rosemary Marshall, State Representative – House District 8 and Kimberly Beethe.
This event will be much, much larger than anything ever proposed for City Park. It will, as the promoters say, be a world-class event. It will also give rise to world-class impacts, both positive and negative, for the City, the park, and, in particular, the neighborhoods and businesses surrounding the park. The Board of Directors of North City Park Civic Association encourages everyone who resides in or owns a business in North City Park to attend this meeting and listen, learn, and voice your opinion.

2008 Denver DIGS Trees
Press Release (edited for space))
The Park People’s Denver Digs Trees program will be distributing trees for planting along Denver streets on April 19, 2008. Denver residents who have room to add a street tree near their curb need to submit a street tree request form by January 31, 2008.
Through the program, more than 30,000 public street trees have been planted across Denver over the last 17 years. More than 10 varieties of street trees are available, including Ohio Buckeye, Turkish Filbert, White Oak, Japanese Pagoda Tree, Ginkgo Biloba, Sprin SnowCrabapple, Toba Hawthorn, American Sentry Linden, Hackberry, and Crimson King Norway Maple. Trees are selected for their adaptability to Denver’s dry climate; are 1” caliber; and come either bareroot or balled-and-burlapped, depending on the variety.
The program is a collaboration between The Park People, a private non-profit organization, and Denver Parks & Recreation’s Forestry Department. For more information call 303-722-6262; email info@theparkpeople.org; or visit them at www.theparkpeople.org.
Reminder: Phone Tree on Hiatus
Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, most of the phone tree volunteers — who telephone each month to remind us of the general meeting – will be out of town visiting family or on vacation. So, this month the phone tree will not be active. Joyce Love, the Phone Tree Committee Chairwoman, wants everyone to remember – the General Meeting of the North City Park Civic Association will be held on November 27, 6:00PM, at 2880 Garfield St.
Everyone, please attend.
