Good afternoon!
I am the Program Manager of Denver Digs Trees, The Park People’s city-wide tree distribution that has provided more than 38,000 low-cost and free street trees to Denver residents and neighborhoods over the past 18 years. Each spring we’ve offered a variety of beautiful trees to spruce up Denver’s streets and make our neighborhoods healthier, more livable places. This fall, we’re excited to offer something new…
I’m pleased to introduce the Fall Shade Tree Program that will bring large shade trees to residents’ yards.
These medium and large sized trees, strategically planted in yards (on private property), will help Denver residents save money and fight global warming by providing valuable energy-saving shade for residents’ homes. These trees are FREE to residents in our target neighborhoods and only $25 each for all other Denver residents! Trees this size usually sell for more than $100!
Target neighborhoods, receiving free trees and chosen for their particularly low canopy cover, include Athmar Park, Baker, Barnum, Barnum West, Chaffee Park, Clayton, Cole, Elyria-Swansea, Five Points, Globeville, Jefferson Park, Lincoln Park, Montbello, Northeast Park Hill, Ruby Hill, Skyland, Sunnyside, Sun Valley, Valverde, Villa Park, West Colfax, Westwood, and Whittier.
I would like to request your help in spreading the word about this new offering to your neighbors. Email the Announcement I have included an email (below my signature) for you to email to members of your group. Just copy, paste, and send!
Canvass the Neighborhood – Cross the Digital Divide and reach out to families that aren’t on your email list.
Organize canvassing efforts to take flyers and applications around to your neighbors, inviting them to apply for a free or low-cost tree. I will provide materials. The deadline for applications is September 1, so we hope for canvassing to be scheduled during July and early August. This is a wonderful opportunity to get outdoors, meet new neighbors, and work toward tangible improvements to your neighborhood and the environment.
If you’d like to initiate other outreach efforts in your neighborhood or in a low-canopy neighborhood and need my help, please let me know. Please contact me at 303-722-6262 or kim@theparkpeople.org if you have any questions. Also, read below if you’d like more information about the many social, environmental, and economic benefits of trees. Thank you for helping to green Denver!
